The Original Funk Band ‘Fatback Band' to hold one-off concert at indigO2 at The O2 on Friday 19th June 2009

After nearly 40 years in the business, Fatback Band are back to inject some soul into this summer with an exclusive concert to be held at the indigO2 at The O2 on Friday 19th June 2009.

The New Yorkers - responsible for the huge soul anthem I Found Lovin - will be singing this along with all their classics including Do The Bus Stop, Wicky Wacky, Do The Spanish Hustle.

Formed in 1970, The Fatback Band were the concept of Bill Curtis, an experienced session drummer, inspired to merge the “fatback” jazz beat of New Orleans into a funk band.

In the mid-1970s, the band incorporated jazz elements and moved more towards a disco sound, resulting in the singles Keep On Steppin, Yum Yum, (Give Me Some) and (Are You Ready) Do The Bus Stop, a song which is said to have contributed to the development of the ever-popular line dancing!

Late 1977 brought a name change to just Fatback and two years later in October 1979, saw the release of the song King Tim III (Personality Jock) which is often considered to be the first commercially released rap single, having been shipped just a week before the infamous Sugarhill Gang's Rapper's Delight.

Fatback Band join the honor-roll of world-class icons such as Prince and Chaka Khan in performing at indigO2 at The O2. This concert will be a unique opportunity to catch the band at their best - in the live environment.
