Haiti - disaster and its supporters
The recent disaster in Haiti has left the world saddened and eager to offer support to this once luscious Caribbean island. Haiti which is famous for fighting the French Revolution and becoming the first Caribbean island to gain independence in 1804, was struck with a deadly earthquake on the 12th January leaving the country ruined.
With the death toll reaching over 150,000, thousands of people have given what they can to help with the result of this natural disaster.
London, like many countries, has helped out by donating and lending support from medical to rescue workers.
Whilst on the entertainment front many shows, raves and events have donated, if not if all but a fraction of, their proceeds to many charitable organisations that are helping Haiti through this difficult time.
There have been various fundraising events dedicated to help restore Haiti, such as Charity for Haiti which is a free workshop on dancing on the 5th February at The Collesuem in Vauxhall where they will be playing the best in Afro- Caribbean and Salsa music.
Ctrl Alt Shift recently put on rave/concert in aid of the Haiti disaster which helped to raise £10,000. All proceeds were donated to their Haiti relief. Artist like Tinchy Stryder, GFrsh and Wiley lent their support for the nine hour concert.
In addition to the show Ctrl Alt Shift have organised an auction which closes on the 31st January. The many items on sale include limited edition items such as a Taz Hand-Painted Converse Trainers and Jay Z engraved disc.
The Urban communities have stuck together in this trying time and have raised tremendous amounts of money for this disaster.
