The Fresher Prince: heir to the throne?
Following the release of the heavily Smith-supported movie: The Karate Kid, the buzz has naturally settled around young star Jaden Smith’s ability to surpass his father as the family’s main-man on screen. It’s probably too early to talk about “Big Will” being upstaged – though, yes Jaden was wonderful in “The Pursuit of Happyness.” However, Will undoubtedly broke the mould on some of his earlier action roles to give one of the performances of his life in that film. We all knew he had it in him though: “Six Degrees of Separation” and “Ali” showed this to be true. Not to mention those episodes of “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air” when his father let him down, or when Will’s mistake caused Carlton to overdose. Oh the emotion! I know you remember…
What his son’s success may mean, is that instead of worrying about the potential void Will would leave if he ever chose to retire, we can rest a little knowing that there’s a torch that can be passed. So far, Jayden has proven he has ability. More so, he has started early – so he has the time to get on the grind like his father. If he personally works hard at his craft, then there’s definitely a possibility of him usurping his dad’s achievements. For now though, he’s definitely a fresh prince – that just means that Will is king.
