Ian Wright Gets Axed By Five
Ex-footballer Ian Wright has been axed from TV show Live at Studio Five. Richard Desmond, new boss at Channel 5, has decided not to renew Wright’s contract in a bid to cut costs. However, the show’s other two presenters, Jayne Middlemiss and Kate Walsh (from the Apprentice), have survived the cutbacks. You would have thought it would make more sense to keep a male and a female presenter, but I guess they realised they can’t afford to keep a big star like Wright on board! Either that, or they were sick of him disagreeing with their ideas.
Wright was unhappy with the decision to cut the hour long show to just thirty minutes, so it did not clash with BBC’s The One Show. “This is pointless, this is not what I’m doing it for,” the former England striker said. He also clashed with executives when he refused to promote one of their other shows, Don’t Stop Believing. He told a radio station, “Channel Five wants me to dance and jump through hoops saying how great this show is…when we get on (air) they’re constantly on about it.”
