Music News:
Dizzee Rascal Tipped for Mercury Prize
Dizzee Rascal and indie trio The XX have been named as the front runners to win this year’s prestigious Mercury Prize for most outstanding album.
Only 12 acts were whittled down from over 200 entries. Other named finalists are soul singer Corinne Bailey Rae for her album The Sea and music veteran Paul Weller – so Dizzee’s up against some stiff competition.
If Dizzee walks away with this prize he can stand it next to his other Mercury Music award which he won in 2003 for his debut album Boy In Da Corner.
The prize will be awarded in London on September 7.
The final 12 in the shortlist are:
I Am Kloot - Sky At Night
Foals - Total Life Forever
Laura Marling - I Speak Because I Can
The XX - XX
Dizzee Rascal - Tongue N' Cheek
Corinne Bailey Rae - The Sea
Villagers - Becoming A Jackal
Wild Beasts - Two Dancers
Biffy Clyro - Only Revolutions
Kit Downes Trio - Golden
Paul Weller - Wake Up The Nation
Mumford & Sons - Sigh No More
