No Place Like Home
No Place Like Home, the soundtrack to the film The Prodigals is ram packed full of positive and uplifting lyrics, with a nice blend of soulful and mix beats. Each track has been produced to support the message in the film, which is aimed at showing young people that it can be tough to leave home before your really ready. There is a real underground feel to this album and producer Neville Thomas has done a nice job with the professional finish on these tracks.
The album includes the sound of the legendary UK artist Beverley Knight whose track Get Ready, gives a strong and mature sound to the whole album. The message she sings is ‘Get Ready to face the world', which focuses on the dangers and complex situations young people can into when they go out into the big wide world alone.
This album has also given some of London's young and talented artists a chance to shine. There are a few sounds that stood out like She by Bella ft. Couture. This track has a really soulful feel to it. The backing vocals compliment the spoken word poetry, which is a really effective way to get her messages across.
Heart on a paper by Typah, talks about the hardships of a relationship on the streets. This track is a true representation of UK hip-hop, and definitely one for the ladies!
The Prodigals is being used as a part of a training scheme in schools, youth clubs and colleges all over the country. I would say that this soundtrack is going to appeal to the majority of young people out there and will there reinforce the effectiveness of the film.
