If you like sex, drugs and drama then City Rats (18) is the movie for you. It's a brilliant urban movie and has the makings of becoming a cult classic.

Based on the fortunes or misfortunes of eight lost souls throughout one muggy day in London, City Rats juggles four different stories where the characters never know which way to turn throughout the film.

Pete (Danny Dyer) is a drink-drenched ex-con who's shadowy past comes back to haunt him when the mother Carol (Natasha Williams) of an old acquaintance asks him for help tracking down her missing son. Dean (Ray Panthaki) is a down-on-his-luck artist, who dreams of making Gina (Susan Lynch), a prostitute in callipers who lives in the flat above, his muse in order to restore his long lost mojo. Sexually confused Olly (Kenny Doughty), a young man whose deaf-mute autistic brother Chris (James Lance) visits him for the day, finds himself trying to help his brother to lose his virginity. Jim (Tamer Hassan), a drunken divorcee who is trying to work out the best way to commit suicide, intercepts Sammy (MyAnna Buring) who has also had enough of life. The pair link up to try to make sense of the situation they find themselves in.

Writer Simon Fantauzzo and Director Steve Kelly film have touted the film as the British Crash. City Rats is a multi-layered compelling drama that leaves you longing to know the outcome of the lives of each individual portrayed. The film leaves you with the idea that human lives are somehow interlinked. Throughout the wonderfully made 96 minute film is a bittersweet tale of hope and redemption, even though we face obstacles in our lives.

City Rats is now available to watch or buy on DVD.
