Tate's birthday and wedding are fast approaching. Happy times you may think. But Tate is sat in the dark swallowing a bottle of pills. He is trying to kill himself, but something is cleary killing Tate. The question is what?

Winner of 11 film awards including Best Director at the BFM Film festival, "Something is killing Tate" Keeps you wondering just what made this handsome 25 year old man want to commit suicide. Tate (Played by Jocko Sims) will keep you guessing for a while. After surviving his suicide attempt, one by one the people in his life turn up at his apartment wanting to know the burning question... "What is killing Tate?"

His fiancée Renee thinks it may be the pressure of the wedding and wants to call it off. He assures he that it is not her and he just wants to be left alone to think. And it is when Tate is alone with his own thoughts that we see just what led him to such a drastic decision.

It is his past which he has to confront if he ever wants to move forward with his life. But that is easier said than done! His mother turns up and with her arrival the complex layers of Tate's life are revealed.

"Something is killing Tate" deals with real life. It exposes the hidden topics in our society that we normally shy away from and smacks you across the cheek with them. The films’ dialogue was real, no cliché lines and no gimmicks. Just raw and straight to the point.  The characters were ones we could all relate to. And I think Ladies will take a particular disliking to Jasmine, Tate's "Best friend".

This film will make you wonder about the lives of people who take that step to suicide. It is successful because it taps into the one thing we all have, empathy.

"Something is killing Tate" was shown on 8 November 2009 at the BFI Southbank
