Babel

Stan Wont Dance presents Babel, an insightful and uncompressing look into the different aspects of British society. Brutally honest; its juxtaposition of contemporary dance against spoken word, you are left questioning your own identity in a world where we are bombarded by branded advertising, social networking and news exploitation.

This was effectively depicted in a scene where the same newspaper within a month carried two news articles, the first one saying that coffee could cause cancer, the second saying that, coffee could cure cancer. This hypocrisy shows that we live in a ¬¬society where our news no longer holds the value to inform its readers but to create sensationalism.

The show takes you through a journey were no stone in British society is left unturned, from Muslim honour killings to unfocused youth driven by violence, drugs, sex and rock and roll. One is left wondering how we can find peace of mind in the maze of our modern society.

I feel that the delight that came from this performance was dance choreography, full of energy. The dance movements linked in with words that created a sense of mass destruction felt as though it went straight to my inner consensuses.

A show that manages to make you think about all the actions you make, question whether social networking really brings people together. With scenes that will make you laugh, sigh and maybe more importantly think independently away from the media news and propaganda.

Stan wont Dance premiered at Laban on Thursday 21st January and Friday 22nd January
