Reviews:
Fabolous' 5th studio album 'Loso's Way'
Funky, fun and Fabolous!...these are the words that spring to mind when listening to this album. Filled with banging club beats, Fabolous continues to make records that consistently make you nod your head (occasionally breaking out with what looks like the 'Harlem shake'!). His 'lazy' flow mixed with hard hittig sounds are definitely not for the mellow music types, be ready to indulge in a fun blend of party music and meaningless lyrics such as 'your bodies balabing...lala ling lalala ling', featured in his track 'Mira Mira'.
However, ignoring the lyrical content, I must say the album was a thoroughly enjoyable listen. He managed to capture the RnB audience without straying too far from his Hip hop roots. Collaborations with The Dream, Jeremih, Ray J and Marques Houston, contributes to this accomplishment, with 'feel good' songs that take a woman to 'fantasy land'- well that is if you've got a good imagination. The familiar sounds of the Southside Hip Hop highlights Fabolous' musical influence. From the instruments used, to his 'Swag Surfin' dance track, it is clear that Southside music has a heavy impact on his music.
Although a majority of the tracks were generally good Hip Hop/RnB pieces, it is unfortunate to say that there was not a noticeable growth from previous projects. Comparing 'Loso's Way' to his first album four albums ago, I can't say there is a significant difference in mood or calibre. In fact, it is a fair judgement to state that it was a 'played safe' album. There were few unique tracks, somehow, feeling as though it were a CD pulled from my old rack. With the competition so high these days, Fabolous is desperately in need of a reinvention.
Come back again Fabo, but this time with a BANG!
RATING: 3/5
