Reviews:
Jaheim - Another Round
With 2007 being the last time since Jaheim dropped an album; ‘Another Round' is a much anticipated album from this crooner.
Silky, sultry & smooth, is definitely the best way to describe Jaheim's voice. After listening to this album, I have to say that I was a little bit disappointed though. In comparison to his previous albums, it seems as if he has left the ‘Ghetto' behind and has grown up, but this album doesn't quite meet the sexiness that I'm used to when it comes to Jaheim.
There are a few tracks that live up to his style such as ‘Ain't Leavin without You', ‘Finding My Way Back', ‘Her' and ‘Closer' that really hit the mark. The rest of the album is a bit of a hit and miss.
Track 1, ‘Ain't Leavin Without You', starts you off on a high, with its thumping baseline, thug loving lyrics, once you hear it it's recognisably Jaheim. I can see this being a hit summer track, it makes u want to sing along and turn up real loud!
After that, the album becomes your typical slow jam's session. ‘Finding My Way Back' and ‘Closer' gives you that familiar taste of Jaheim's love anthems. As for the track titled ‘Her', I have to say that this is a track you'll want to put on repeat. with lyrics like this;
VERSE ONE:
Who walks in a room and fills the room with perfume
She leaves, it seems much too soon
Who uses the moonlight to highlight her features
What a beautiful creature, it's a pleasure to meet ya girl.
Tell Me Who can help you grow and change ya clothes.
Can take ya bank account and add some O's.
And make your propose, got ya nose open,
Open the door for her that's what she deserves.
Jaheim is really singing his appreciation for this women, this track is definitely a pleaser. The album titled track ‘Another Round', has the potential to be a club banger but there just seems to be something missing, maybe a collaboration of some sort would have done the trick?
Track number 6, ‘Impossible', (another love song) is sung over the familiar Percy Sledge track, ‘When a Man Loves a Woman'. But I have to say it unfortunately doesn't quite mix well, it almost sounds as if Jaheim is racing over the track when he should have taken his time. Track number 9, ‘Two Pink Lines', lyrically is beautiful. Here Jaheim is singing about becoming a father and all the joys that will come with it, but the track once again seems to be missing something?
Over all I found this album a bit of a hit and miss. The tracks aren't as slick as they should/could be. Usually I can let Jaheim's albums play all the way through but this album I'm going to have to skip to my favourites. If you're an avid Jaheim fan you'll probably think I'm talking utter rubbish and absolutely love this album, but trust me, this is not his best album and after waiting so long for his return, I had higher expectations. It seems as if Jaheim has lost his way.
Rating 2/5 for this one, sorry.
