Before the release of his 4th studio album ‘Teflon Don’, which dropped yesterday, Rick Ross the  ‘Bawse’ released ‘The Albert Anastasia’, a 13 track mix tape giving us a sample of what to expect from the new album.

The Miami based rapper first came on the scene with his anthem ‘Hustlin’ in 2006 and has been dropping hits ever since. Signed to Def Jam records he has a close working relationship with DJ Khaled who he has featured on many of his projects.

This mixtape has shown more of Ross’s versatility and musical growth. He delivers pure genius with his lyrical content. Hip Hop lovers and Rick Ross fans will be pleased with this EP.

Named after Italian mobster Albert Anastasia, Ross makes references to his love for the Italian mafia.
Having been called Fat Albert while growing up, he kept the name Albert and discovered there could be other alias to the name.

The EP opens with an intro from Diddy who rants on for about himself and his appreciation of Ross.
With a range of exciting collaborations with artists from Kool G Rap to Trey Songz.
The first song on the EP is ‘MC Hammer’ which compares his lifestyle to the ex rapper MC Hammer who made millions before going  bankrupt in the 90’s.

The song ‘Gotti Family’ featuring Yo Gotti, which cleverly samples the 1972 hit ‘Work To Do’ from the Isley Brothers which pays homage to the different types of hustles.

Of course Rick Ross’s gangsta persona has at times got him into trouble. Despite the controversy that surrounds Rick Ross’s claim of being ‘straight hood’ after photographs were leaked of him as a correctional prison officer, he is allegedly being sued by drugs lord, Rick Ross (who he named himself after ) for misusing his name.

At the end of the day though, it all comes down to the music and on Albert Anastasia, Rick Ross silences his critics with stellar production.

The majority of the songs have the signature Rick Ross sound of dark and heavy baselines.
‘Money Maker’ resembles ‘Hustlin’ with the ‘slow down’ distorted voice saying ‘make money’ throughout the song.

Things are taken down on ‘Sweet Life’ featuring John Legend which is about wooing a woman by showing her his luxurious lifestyle.

‘Super High’ featuring Neyo is about giving his woman the very best life. Neyo’s smooth and perfected harmonies ride this melodic beat perfectly.

Like previous albums and EP’s, ‘Albert Anastasia’ speaks about success, hustling, women and living a luxury life.

‘Nasty’ breaks away from the typical Rick Ross sound. It’s catchy chorus offers a Pop/ Dance beat which features up and coming rapper Masspike Miles.

When interviewed by Splifftv about upcoming projects he said, ‘It is a going to be a classic mix tape. Feed the real n****s before Teflon Don.’

Who is Rick Ross? Who knows? Does it even matter?  Albert Anastasia shows a man coming back stronger and showing he truly is the Bawse.
