Black Dynamite

‘The Man killed his brother, pumped heroin into local orphanages, and flooded the ghetto with adulterated malt liquor. Black Dynamite was the one hero willing to fight The Man all the way from the blood-soaked city streets to the hallowed halls of the Honky House.'

Black Dynamite is an action-packed spoof based on Blaxploitation films from the 70s, playing on the typical scenarios and language used in that genre. With its scene change animation and funky soundtrack, Black Dynamite is a must see for the summer.

When Black Dynamite's (Micheal Jai White) brother, Jimmy, is killed he goes to the streets to get answers by tracing a bullet casing left at the scene of the crime. As an ex-Vietnam veteran and former CIA agent, he uses his contacts and skills to help track down his brother’s killers. Armed with his nunchucks and Magnum 44, Black Dynamite shows the 'streets' that he is not to be messed with. Whilst looking for his brother’s killers, Black Dynamite meets Gloria, an activist who is a community and orphanage worker. With the recent outbreak of dope hitting the streets, she leads him into investigating where the drugs in the community have come from and how they have ended up in the orphanage.

Black Dynamite is a hybrid of a 'soul brother' and Kung Fu master, with an eye for the ladies. His hilarious one-liners will have you in stitches, as well as quoting them to your friends as soon as you leave the cinema. This film is pure genius: it is funny, witty and smartly produced. Writer and Director Scott Sanders (Thick Thieves) executed this film brilliantly, by giving it a retro look without distorting the production by using fake scratches or digitally generated retro deterioration. Having been released at last years Sundance Festival, Black Dynamite received high praises and great reviews from critics, as well as the audiences.

Micheal Jai White (Why Did I Get Married?, Dark Knight) shows off his martial art skills, holding seven black belt titles, and he fuses his knowledge of martial arts and comedy to perfection. The film includes appearances from comedy legends Arsenio Hall and Tommy Davidson, who give humorous and memorable performances. In spite of the film’s low budget, it is highly rich in comedy.

Black Dynamite is released 13th August 2010.
