ANUVAHOOD – There's a wasteman on every street
Another Friday? Another Kidulthood? Another “British Urban” Film? Nope, not even, its Anuvahood, it’s as good, if not funnier. Cleverly paving the way for a new genre in British Urban films and I hail it as the 1st of many…, the urbanites' answer to the American classic Friday. It takes some cues from our cousins across the pond but the stereotypes portrayed are not cringe-worthy. It is fresh from our perspective with a cast lead by Adam Deacon and a long list of cameo appearances; the most notable being Eddie Kadi as the typical Nigerian parking inspector and Lethal Bizzle right at the beginning with POW. Absolutely hilarious.
The film, whilst also being funny, hits on a serious note of youth gun crime and culture and I commend it for showing that in the end Adam Deacon aka Kenneth stood up for himself and “crew” and did the right thing.
This film also showcases our music and sound track of this generation, which is refreshing. Also I hope there is a sequel as Mz Brat makes an appearance at the end and lurrrrrrve is in the air. It’s a must watch this year.
